Most people often have the idea that in order to make money online, they have to put up their very own online stores and sell tangible products. But what they don’t know is that there are great ways to make money online even without a product, and that is through joining affiliate programs.
In affiliate programs, you earn money by promoting other people’s products on your website, and you get paid a certain percentage commission for every lead that is turned into a sale. There are many payment schemes in affiliate programs, and before you select a program, it might be a good idea to consider the payment scheme first.
With a pay per impressions payment scheme, you get paid according to how many times the advertiser’s banner is shown on your site. Usually, your pay is calculated for every thousand “impressions” (number of times the banner is displayed). This is also known as CPM, which means cost per thousand, where M is the Latin numeral for a thousand.
So let’s say you joined a program that gives you $5 CPM. It means that for every thousand time your webpage is loaded by a visitor, you earn. Although it is a small amount, you can actually earn a lot especially if your site has a lot of visitors
Another payment scheme is the PPC or pay-per-click. This means you get paid for every time a visitor clicks the advertiser’s banner or ad on your website. Because it would take a click for you to earn, you would naturally be earning more than a CPM scheme. There are things you can do to make sure that the banner gets a lot of clicks, and in turn gives you a high conversion rate. You can make sure that the banner is interesting, so more visitors will be attracted and enticed to click it. Also, a good idea would be to suit your ads to your target audience. For example, if your website or blog is all about loans, then getting banners about loan consolidation would be suitable, and your visitors will be more likely to click on the banner, rather than a totally irrelevant banner, such as a poker ad.
Pay per sale or lead pays you the highest amount, but among the three schemes, it has the lowest conversion rate. This is because you only earn if your visitors go to your site, click the banner, and buy the item from the advertiser, or say, sign up for a specific service of the advertiser. The lead has to be converted into a sale before you can earn. Again, it would be a good idea to suit your advertisements to the target audience of your website, to increase chances of converting your visitors into a buyer.
You can also do some more things to make sure that you earn a lot from affiliate programs. It helps to build a website with rich content that is relevant and entertaining, in order to attract visitors.
Also, make sure that the ads and banners are related to your target audience. For example, if your site’s visitors are fashionable women, then affiliate programs that offer cosmetics, fashion apparel, and accessories would be ideal.
